Symposium on Palliative Care in the ED

January 18, 2013 By David Marcus Leave a Comment

Now, back to business after a prolonged absence due to personal circumstances.  Hopefully someone is still visiting… 😉

Since they don’t have a website yet, just wanted to post a flyer here about the upcoming 1st Annual Symposium on Palliative care in the Emergency Department to be held February 6th at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.  Follow the preceding link for a pdf with information, schedule, and registration details.  Twitter hashtag #EDpalli has been registered. To track on Symplur visit the hashtag page.

Promises to be a great day dedicated to a discussion of how we provide patient-centered end of life (EOL) care in the E.D.  Speakers will cover topics ranging from a general overview of Hospice and practical steps in E.D. palliation to legal considerations in NY and beyond.  Given the increasing complexity, age and acuity of the U.S. ED population all ED providers need to make sure they feel comfortable managing patients at the end of life.  This conference should help.

Full disclosure: This meeting is sponsored by the North Shore-LIJ Department of Emergency Medicine, of which I am a member, but I am not directly involved in conference planning.
